Selective Cutting
Selective cutting is periodic cutting or harvesting of selected trees, individually or in small groups, within a mature population in order to maintain a healthy structure. This method ensures formation, development and regeneration of the forest. Harvesting mature trees on a periodic basis means felling between 25% and 35% of the tree population. Selective Cutting encourages tree replacement cycles and continuous lumber production without ever resorting to complete clearing.
